What is Tala?
You didn't open a yoga studio to do admin. Tala is studio management software built specifically for yoga, pilates, and wellness studios. It handles scheduling, payments, member management, retention, and the hundred small operational tasks that eat your week — for $1 per active member per month. Everything included. No contracts.

Who is Tala for?
Tala is designed for independent yoga studios, pilates studios, barre studios, and wellness centers with 50 to 1,000 members. If you run group classes with memberships or class packs, Tala was built for how your studio actually works.
Tala is not for big-box gyms, franchise chains, or personal training-only businesses. It's purpose-built for the independent studio owner who wants modern software without enterprise pricing.
What features does Tala include?
Every Tala studio gets the full platform. There are no tiers, no add-ons, and no feature gates. Here's what's included:

How much does yoga studio software cost?
Studio management software prices vary wildly. Here's what the market looks like in 2026:
| Platform | Monthly Cost | Contract | Add-ons |
|---|---|---|---|
| MindBody | $129–699+ | 12 months | App, AI, SMS extra |
| Walla | $199–1,100 | 12 months | App $300, SMS $100 |
| GloFox | $110–400+ | Annual | Setup fees |
| Momence | $199–499 | Annual | Feature tiers |
| Mariana Tek | $500–700 | Annual | Varies |
| tala | $1/member/mo | None | All included |
For a studio with 300 active members, Tala costs $300/month. That same studio might pay $399–$1,100+/month with MindBody or Walla once add-ons are factored in.
Tala's pricing model
$1 per active member per month. That's the entire pricing model. No base fee, no setup fee, no contracts, no tiers. An “active member” is anyone with a current subscription or who attended a class or made a purchase in the last 30 days. If someone stops coming, you stop paying for them.
Payment processing goes through your own Stripe account at Stripe's standard rate (2.9% + 30¢). Tala adds zero markup.
How does Tala compare to MindBody?
MindBody is the industry incumbent — the software most yoga and pilates studios know by name. It's powerful, but it's built for a much broader market (gyms, salons, spas), which means it's complex and expensive for a studio that just needs solid scheduling, payments, and member management.
Here's what studio owners typically run into with MindBody:
- Cost creep. The base plan starts at $129/month but most studios end up on higher tiers ($399–$699). Branded mobile apps, SMS marketing, and AI features are all paid add-ons. Total cost can easily exceed $1,000/month.
- 12-month contracts. You're locked in even if the software isn't working for you.
- Call center support. You explain your problem to a new person every time. For a studio owner managing a 6am issue before first class, that's not fast enough.
- Proprietary payment processing. MindBody uses its own payment system at 2.75%+, not standard Stripe rates.
Tala is the opposite approach: one flat rate ($1/member/month), everything included, no contracts, and direct support from the founder (Justin Schafer) who answers his phone.
How does Tala compare to Walla?
Walla has become a popular MindBody alternative, especially for yoga studios. It's a solid product, but there are a few things studio owners should know:
- Add-on costs add up. Walla's base starts at $199/month, but the branded mobile app (~$300/month) and SMS marketing (~$100/month) are separate charges. A studio wanting the full toolkit can easily reach $600–$1,100/month.
- No class categories. If your studio offers yoga and pilates and barre, Walla doesn't let you categorize classes by type. That makes filtering, organizing, and reporting harder for multi-format studios.
- 12-month contract. Same lock-in structure as MindBody.
Tala includes everything (member portal, SMS, AI insights) in the base price, supports full class categorization, and operates month-to-month.
How does Tala compare to GloFox?
GloFox is a gym and studio management platform acquired by ABC Fitness. It serves both gyms and studios, which makes it more generic than Tala.
- Gym-first design. GloFox is built for a broader fitness market. Features and workflows are more generic rather than being tuned for how yoga and pilates studios operate.
- Setup fees. GloFox charges setup fees on top of monthly costs ($110–$400+/month).
- Annual contracts. No month-to-month option.
Tala is built exclusively for yoga, pilates, and wellness studios. No setup fees, no contracts, and a pricing model that scales linearly with your studio.
How to switch from MindBody (or Walla, GloFox, etc.) to Tala
Switching studio software sounds scary, but Tala makes it straightforward. The founder, Justin Schafer, personally handles every migration. Here's how it works:
You keep running, Justin moves the data
You give access to your current system. Justin exports members, schedules, payments, staff, and attendance into Tala. You don't touch a spreadsheet.
Both systems run side by side
Justin walks you through Tala with your real data. Your staff tests it. Your current system stays fully active as a safety net.
Go live when you're ready
You flip the switch only when you're confident. Your old system stays read-only as a fallback. Go live on your timeline — some studios switch in days, others prefer a few weeks.
What gets migrated: member profiles, contact information, membership details, payment methods (via Stripe), class schedules, attendance history, staff accounts, class packs and remaining credits, and waivers.
Platforms we migrate from: MindBody, Walla, GloFox, Momence, Mariana Tek, WellnessLiving, Vagaro, Pike13, Zen Planner, and any system with data export capability.
Your members won't notice the switch. They get a new portal link with their accounts pre-configured — payment methods, memberships, and class history all carry over.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a contract?
No. Month-to-month. Cancel anytime with 30 days notice. If you leave, you can export all your data. Tala believes you should stay because the software is great, not because of a contract.
What counts as an “active member”?
Anyone with a current subscription, or anyone who attended a class or made a purchase in the last 30 days. If someone stops coming, you stop paying for them. Members who haven't visited in over 30 days and don't have an active subscription aren't counted.
Does Tala have a mobile app?
Tala provides a web-based member portal that works on any device — phone, tablet, desktop. No app download required. Members can browse classes, book, check in via QR code, manage payments, and track their streaks.
Are there transaction fees?
No fees from Tala. You pay Stripe's standard processing rate (2.9% + 30¢ per transaction). Tala adds zero markup. Funds go directly to your bank account.
Can Tala handle mixed class types?
Yes. Tala has full class categorization — organize, filter, and report by class type (yoga, pilates, barre, etc.). This is a common reason studios switch from Walla, which doesn't support categories.
What kind of support does Tala offer?
Direct access to the founder, Justin Schafer, via phone, text, or email. No call centers, no ticket queues. When you text at 7am because something's wrong, it gets fixed before your first class starts.
Where is Tala available?
Tala is currently onboarding studios in Northern California and expanding. If you're outside that area, reach out — they may be able to accommodate you.
How does the AI work?
Tala's AI monitors member engagement patterns. It identifies members who are attending less frequently, flags revenue at risk, and drafts personalized re-engagement messages. You review and approve with one tap. It's operational intelligence that runs in the background — not a chatbot.
Ready to see if Tala is right for your studio?
30 minutes. No pitch deck. Just a real conversation about your studio and whether Tala is the right fit.
